The Del Ray Montessori School (DRMS) is located in the Del Ray section of Alexandria, Virginia, just a few miles outside of Washington, DC.  Our “Little School Around the Corner” is comprised of one toddler classroom, two primary classrooms, and one elementary.  We are a long-time AMI-recognized school that has a supportive parent community, and a team that is guided by and believes strongly in the Montessori philosophy.  We are currently seeking a Director of Education to support our teachers and students’ growth in Montessori education.

As the Director of Education you will work closely with the Head of School to provide support across all levels and promote overall school development.  You will play a crucial role in assisting the teachers in fostering a classroom environment firmly grounded in Montessori principles of respect and independence.  This position requires a compassionate individual who embodies the values of the Montessori philosophy at all times and has a strong desire to work in a community guided by respect for humanity.

We are seeking candidates who:

Possess an AMI diploma in at least one level, hopefully more!  (Assistants to Infancy, Primary and/or Elementary);

Has at least five years of classroom experience;

Is committed to learning and growing as an educator;

Has a genuine desire to collaborate with others and thrive in an environment that has a strong teamwork ethic;

Is enthusiastic about working with children and celebrating their successes; and

Promotes diversity, supports inclusion, and celebrates belonging.

Sample responsibilities include:

Collaborate with school administration, teachers and support staff to monitor and promote student progress, while upholding a high-fidelity, robust, authentic Montessori program.

Regularly observe in classrooms, mentor and guide teachers and support staff, and  provide ongoing training opportunities for our staff and parents.

Support the school administration with admissions, marketing, and community outreach.

Contribute to the overall growth and development of the school.
