Organization and Program Description: Sunny Hollow Montessori is an established, AMI-accredited school in St. Paul, Minnesota. The school serves Toddler through Junior High students. The Junior High program is five years old.

Reports to: Education Director
Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Contract Length: 10 months
Job Purpose: The Junior High Math/Science Guide will work collaboratively with the Junior High Humanities Guide to deliver a philosophically sound, integrated, 2-year Montessori adolescent program.

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Montessori Curriculum/Instruction:
Implement Science and Math curriculum that is aligned to Minnesota State Standards.
Provide student-centered, hands-on, real-world, and inquiry-based work opportunities.
Align curriculum with Learning for Justice standards and benchmarks.
Create physical student materials to guide students through academic cycles and promote executive function skill development.
Create assessment tools to measure student outcomes for each academic cycle.
Use the analysis of assessment data to make curricular and instructional decisions, including intervention for individual students.
Track intervention data for individual students and maintain communication with the Education Director and Inclusion Coordinator to determine appropriate continued support.
Help plan and attend week-long Odysseys in September and May.
Support the program’s micro-economy by guiding students’ entrepreneurial efforts.

Recordkeeping/Planning:
Use Transparent Classroom for lesson planning and to record student progress.
Generate cycle reports, mid-year reports, and end-of-year reports in collaboration with Humanities Guide.
Maintain accurate and complete student records.

Classroom Management:
Prepare the classroom environment to support adolescents holistically.
Manage one of two classroom spaces during the work cycles while the Humanities Guide manages the second.
Establish and maintain classroom routines and expectations to assist students in peaceful work habits.
Actively supervise students’ free time (lunch and recess).

Programmatic Administrative Work:
Collaborate with faculty colleagues to support student transitions from Upper Elementary to Junior High.
Collaborate in programmatic decision-making around: core curriculum, occupations, service learning, physical and creative expressions, and fall and spring Odysseys.
Attend All Staff meetings.
Attend Junior High Level meetings.
Participate in monthly 1:1 meetings with the Education Director.
Attend school events required of a Guide.

Family Education:
Help plan and participate in Junior High family education events.

Discipline/Behavior:
Collaborate with the Humanities Guide to determine behavior expectations and natural consequences of behavior.
Maintain positive 1:1 relationships with each student and support conflict resolution.

Family Communication:
Participate in student-led family conferences twice per year and as needed related to work, behavior problem solving, etc.
Collaborate with the Humanities Guide on the Junior High monthly newsletter.
Tag two photos per student per month in Transparent Classroom.

Continuing Education:
Participate in continuing education opportunities, as interested and as needed, in the areas of Montessori curriculum/instruction, recordkeeping/planning, classroom management, family communication, and other applicable topics.

Education & Licensure Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Science/Math-related field

Experience Required: 1-3 years of adolescent teaching experience, including curriculum development and implementation.

Licensure/Certifications Preferred: Montessori Adolescent Orientation (AMI) or Diploma (AMI or AMS)
