About Us

Located in Springfield, Virginia just outside the nation’s capital, The Springs, A Montessori School, was founded in 1966 as a private school to provide Montessori education for children in the Northern Virginia area. Since that time, The Springs has seen major growth and now serves upwards of 230 students from as young as 6 weeks of age up to 12 years old.   The Springs is part of the NOVA Montessori group that includes a partner Montessori school in Woodbridge, VA as well as a professional development and consulting organization.   The Springs is supported by a faculty of 45 Montessori professionals and a $3 million operating budget.   The Springs holds an accreditation with COGNIA as well as has a Montessori accreditation.

Position Description

The Head of School is an energetic, passionate, and collaborative individual who constantly seeks to support/nurture students, families, and faculty. The successful candidate will continue to maintain and grow the school’s reputation for excellence and authenticity in Montessori education.  The Head of School reports to and engages in strategic planning with the Executive Directors while collaborating with level coordinators, teachers, families, and students to create an enriching school environment across all levels.  In this role, the Head of School will:

•represent, market, and promote the school community

•oversea that management of student admissions and enrollment

•manage and supervise faculty

•recruit and hire school personnel

•foster community relations with families

•understand the varying needs of infants through adolescents and how to integrate community between age groups

•oversee the development/execution of academic curriculum

•provide leadership/mentorship to faculty members

•support and bring innovative ideas to other areas of the school.

•plan, coordinate and execute special projects

•manage scheduling

•maintain school operating budget

•ensures adherence to accreditation and licensing standards

•motivate/inspire teachers, parents, and students alike


Required Qualifications & Skills

•A love and understanding of children

•Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an education related field

•MACTE certification is highly preferred

•Minimum 5 years of teaching experience

•Previous experience as a school administrator is highly preferred

•Demonstration of organizational leadership and vision

•Excellent interpersonal skills

•Impeccable verbal and written communication abilities

•Extraordinary attention to detail

•Excellent judgement and the ability to strike a balance between tradition and innovation

•Ability to coordinate and problem solve at a whole school level

•Confident with directing others, but comfortable with collaboration and receiving constructive criticism

•Ability to lead and manage large initiatives

•Be flexible and willing to learn

•A car and valid driver’s license

Compensation

·  Salary: $80,000 – $100,000 depending on experience and level of education

·  5 weeks paid vacation
