Head of School

Administrator/Head of School,

St. Catherine's Montessori

The School St. Catherine’s Montessori (SCM) is an engaging and vibrant education community, serving children 14-month-old through twelfth grade in the heart of Houston, Texas. SCM upholds the values of its shared Montessori and Catholic heritages. As an AMI school, St. Catherine’s follows the philosophy, curriculum and traditions established by a respected educator Dr. Maria Montessori. More than simply a method of education, the Montessori approach encourages the child’s natural curiosity and fosters the whole child’s development—intellectually, physically, socially, morally, and spiritually. As a Catholic community, St. Catherine’s nurtures students’ spiritual development so that each student may experience the presence of God both individually and in the community. Through a combination of rigorous academic study, moral education, and spiritual inquiry, students are prepared for admission to and success at leading universities across the United States.

St. Catherine’s Dominican founders envisioned the rich potential of combining Montessori and Catholic principles, and their generous legacy continues to inspire the SCM community. A school of 55 years, St. Catherine’s settled at the 10.4-acre Timberside campus in July 2006 and the high school opened in August 2017. In February 2019, St. Catherine’s was gifted three acres of land at Japhet Creek in Houston’s Greater East End District to expand the Adolescent Community’s environmental education activities. The complementary missions of Montessori education and the Catholic faith are perhaps most simply summarized by the school’s guiding motto, “Bringing Wisdom to Light.” SCM exists to teach children to discover their place in God’s world for lives of wisdom, love, and service. Informed by a solid Catholic perspective, SCM offers an education that attends to the nurturing and development of the whole child so that each may form a sure foundation for life.
