Mountain Shadows Montessori School (MSMS) is dedicated to finding a Director of Education that will be a long-term asset to our organization, who has the skills to perform a wide variety of leadership and administrative tasks that support the high-quality AMI Montessori Classroom environments, and who will be the Educational representative of the school within the administration, marketing, and in both our school and broader communities. This is a full-time, salaried position. The Director of Education must be on site for the entirety of the school day (8 AM – 4 PM, Monday through Friday).

The role includes but is not limited to the following:

Oversee the educational programs by supporting teachers under the AMI guidelines and assuring the class is operating under the AMI guidelines

Aids teachers with students experiencing behavioral challenges or learning needs by observing these students, working with them directly, or supporting the teacher in finding special resources to support the child when needed

Liaison between parents and teachers when conflicts arise around pedagogy

Helps to set up procedures and support for children with special needs. Help to build a list of professionals to support children with individual needs

Educational leader and support for both teachers and parents during parent/teacher meetings

Collaborates with teachers to guide classroom placements of new students or of students moving up to new classrooms

Conducts individual staff evaluations and coaching as well as classroom staff team coaching and support

Ensures that teachers and staff have growth opportunities, including well-thought-out continuing education courses that match the needs of the staff and community

Build strong relationships with teachers, students, colleagues, parents, and broader communities that embody Montessori principles and values

Foster student retention through school communications, marketing opportunities, and by supporting parent/teacher relationships

Lead school tours and build community with prospective families and oversee new student enrollment steps and contracts

Confidently use technology-based hardware, software and websites such as GSuite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and WordPress

Create regular newsletters to educate parents about our Montessori programs and curriculum

Help teachers maintain classroom environments with materials and supplies

Leads hiring of new teachers and assistants in conjunction with the Head of School

Works with HOS to create a positive staff culture of support, teamwork, and enthusiasm for the school

Education and Experience:

AMI Montessori teaching credential is required

Five years of classroom Montessori teaching experience strongly preferred

Previous Director of Education experience preferred

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or related field

Experience working with preschool and elementary-aged children

Leadership experience

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Must be willing to undergo a background check
