Adolescent Guide (Science/Math) – Start Fall 2022

Guide/Teacher,

Bovina Center Montessori School

We are looking for our new Math & Science Middle School Guide (12-15 years) to start in September 2022.

Come and join us at our farm-based Montessori school in the Northwestern Catskills of New York!

We are building an authentic AMI Montessori school for ages 18 months – 18 years on a 50-acre, future permaculture farm in the beautiful hamlet of Bovina Center, NY. We put emphasis on four core aspects that reflect our geographical region: nature conservation, the arts, sustainable farming/living, and entrepreneurship. This is activated through outdoor learning, work on the farm, and experiences in our beautiful natural surroundings.

Since September 2021, we’ve opened three classrooms at the school, toddler, primary and our elementary classroom 6-12. Our hope is to in the future split this classroom up into two separate classrooms (6-9 yrs and 9-12 yrs). We plan to open a 12-15 program this Fall 2022.

The goal of Bovina Center Montessori School is to:

Provide access to a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate educational environment for all children seeking it.

Offer a world-class, AMI-recognized, Montessori academic program for children from 18 months to 18 years in a beautiful rural farm setting, where the outdoor classroom and the indoor classroom meet and complement each other, and where we draw inspiration and learn from the nature surrounding us.

Kindle a joy of learning, a strong sense of curiosity, a willingness to always ask questions, as well as mastering critical thinking.

Employ permaculture principles & design, sustainable practices, and nature conservation ethics in our school life and daily work, recognizing our stewardship of the planet and our responsibility as individuals and as a community to the land. Students at our school and farm will learn to observe and cooperate with nature, gaining skills to enjoy a harmonious and lasting relationship with their natural surroundings.

Support each individual student’s creative imagination and artful expression, through skills-based learning, thus building a love for the beauty, fun, and healing effects of art.

Nurture in our students an entrepreneurial spirit so they can live a sustainable and abundant life, which includes building the skills towards independence in whatever endeavor they pursue.

Instill in our students the importance of (involvement in) community, caring and helping each other, volunteering, service, grace & courtesy, peaceful interaction, and collective strength as a vital part of them fulfilling their potential.

We can offer:

A competitive salary (commensurate with experience), health benefits, paid vacation/holidays/sick time, Montessori conferences allowance, paid professional development, and tuition assistance for dependent children. Housing can be offered, if needed.

Preference will be given to applicants with Middle School experience who have completed the AMI Adolescent Orientation/Training. We are looking for an educator with a background in math and science preferably.

Please submit your cover letter and application to our Head of School, Sophie Wallas Rasmussen at sophie@bovinamontessori.com
