I want to bring to your attention the new website for Montessori advocacy called Montessori Forward. This website is hosted by Montessori Schools of Maryland (MSM) and the Association of Illinois Montessori Schools (AIMS). It was created by the QRIS subcommittee of the Montessori Public Policy Committee as a means to engage Montessorians in conversation about the possibilities and action to be taken in addressing legislative and regulatory challenges for implementation of high-quality Montessori education nationwide.
While the Montessori Public Policy Committee includes representatives from AMS and AMI/USA, among others, it exists as an independent group and the information shared on the Montessori Forward website is not intended to represent any specific organization.
The first focus of the website is the Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). With hundreds of folks participating in last week’s QRIS webinar (about a new policy trend that could negatively impact the Montessori community) I know we have a lot of passionate educators out there who are eager to become more involved in supporting quality Montessori education nationwide and thus – whether you participated in the webinar or not – I encourage you to take the time to visit Montessori Forward, which includes resources and calls to action. (If you missed the webinar, a link to a recording will be placed on the AMS and AMI/USA websites and on Montessori Forward shortly.)
