BrownRichards & Associates is working with The Suzuki School, a Montessori school with multiple campuses in Atlanta, to hire a School Director for one of their sites. The site serves 200 children, infants to 5 years. The Suzuki School is seeking a leader with exceptional management skills and deep commitment to the Montessori experience in early childhood education.
• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (MA preferred) or related field.
• 5 + years as a school administrator in a full-day Montessori school environment.
• 5 + years of early childhood teaching experience and a thorough knowledge of an early childhood Montessori curriculum.
• High emotional intelligence, including conflict resolution skills, required to lead effectively in a truly collaborative environment.
• Committed to a long career with the school.
• Excellent written and oral communication ability.
• Ability to build and maintain strong partnerships with staff, parents and the Board of Directors.
The Suzuki School Story:
In 2007 The Suzuki School transitioned from a more traditional preschool curriculum to the Montessori Method. Across three campuses, the school employs approximately 75 teachers and 40 assistants. The Suzuki School underwrites a Montessori training institute to ensure a highly qualified teaching staff. The institute is currently working toward MACTE accreditation.
The teaching environment in Suzuki classrooms is extremely collaborative. A School Director engages with teachers at a level of collaboration much greater than usually found in smaller or more traditionally staffed Montessori environments. The Suzuki School is organized to promote this level of collaboration by employing a dedicated support staff that handles HR, recruiting, billing and admissions for all campuses. This allows a School Director to focus on the needs of the classroom, children, teachers and parents.
The Suzuki School has a strong reputation in the local private school community, with a very high acceptance rate at top schools in the Atlanta metro area. Parents often choose Suzuki because of its reputation for excellence in early childhood education, not because it is a Montessori school. For this reason, the level of parent communication and partnership is different – often more intense and transparent than found at many Montessori schools. School Directors invest much of their time in building parent relationships and promoting parent knowledge of Montessori methods.
Successful applicants must demonstrate certain knowledge, skills and interests, including the following:
• The leadership to provide genuine support and guidance to collaborative teaching teams ranging in size from 3 to 6 members.
• The ability to develop strong partnerships with parents committed to educational excellence, but who may not yet appreciate or understand Montessori.
• The flexibility to thrive in an Executive Committee structure requiring an openness to different ideas, high personal accountability, and an interest in exploring different ways to solve problems.
• The self-assurance to work with a strong and stable Board of Directors composed of school leadership and owners.
