Upper Elementary Head Teacher for Maternity Leave
Maternity Leave – March 1, 2014 - June 13, 2014
An Upper Elementary head teacher will work in conjunction with the Head of The Middle School, a team of Upper Elementary teachers, the learning specialist, the school psychologist, and the Head of School to educate and lead Upper Elementary students in accordance with the principles of Montessori educational philosophy and practices, the mission, the curriculum, and the policies of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School. An Upper Elementary head teacher will team-teach language arts, math, and cultural subjects (social studies and science).
Qualifications: Montessori Elementary II certificate, Masters Degree plus 3+ years teaching experience preferred
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare lessons in the designated subject areas in accordance with the curriculum of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School, its mission, and Montessori philosophy
Be an advisor to a designated group of students
Maintain a prepared environment in the classroom and other areas used for instruction
Meet with the Upper Elementary teaching team on a regular basis to plan curriculum, discuss students, etc.
Maintain student records
Arrange, prepare for, and participate in regular parent-teacher conferences
Attend and participate in various evening meetings
Participate in Curriculum Overviews as needed
Plan and participate in regularly scheduled day and overnight trips with students
Attend and contribute to regularly scheduled faculty meetings and work days
Establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, parents, and other teachers and school personnel
Comply with the established policies and procedures of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School as stated in the Faculty and Staff Handbook
Perform various reasonable tasks from time to time as requested by the Head of School or The Head of The Middle School.
